LA DORIA: SBTI GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION REDUCTION OBJECTIVES VALIDATED

Group commits to cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 46.2% and Scope 3 emissions by 32.3% by 2031

Angri (SA), February 16, 2024 – La Doria, the leading Group in the production of tomato-based products, sauces, pulses and fruit juices for the supermarket private labels market, is pleased to announce that its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for 2031 have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a global body that enables companies to set ambitious emission reduction targets in line with the latest climate science evidence.

La Doria specifically commits to reduce, compared to 2021, direct GHG emissions from production activities (Scope 1) and indirect GHG emissions from, for example, the purchase of electricity (Scope 2) by 46.2%, and to reduce upstream and downstream emissions (Scope 3), and in particular those related to the purchase of goods and services, by 32.3%, through the selection of suppliers increasingly focused on meeting ESG production criteria.

The purpose of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is to accelerate action by companies around the world to halve emissions by 2030, achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and, at the same time, provide companies with a defined pathway by independently assessing and approving their results. The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the We Mean Business Coalition.

“The validation of the targets by STBi is a great achievement for La Doria as providing further confirmation of the effectiveness of our strategy to safeguard the environment, one of the fundamental pillars that guide the Group’s initiatives. This strategy is based on concrete projects and actions that aim not only to reduce emissions generated by our production activities, but also those upstream and downstream in the supply chain. The fact that our targets have been validated by SBTi is also an important signal to our partners and stakeholders on the importance that sustainability issues hold for us” – commented Antonio Ferraioli, CEO of La Doria Group.

Obtaining the validation is part of La Doria’s broader path geared toward harmonising economic, social and environmental aspects, a commitment that is presented and reported annually in the Sustainability Report.

The company has in fact for many years been implementing actions to promote respect for the environment, human rights and the well-being of workers. These actions specifically led in 2023 to joining the United Nation Global Compact (UNGC). This is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, based on ten universal principles related to human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.

In fact, investments over the years have made it possible by 2022 to self-produce 44% of energy needs through modern photovoltaic systems and high-efficiency cogeneration plants, to cut CO2 emissions by 10.8% through thermal and energy recovery, and recover 98% of waste.
