One thousand new plants in the Campania region thanks to La Doria

Naples, April 12, 2023 – Contributing to the environmental regeneration of the territory, protecting its biodiversity and improving its naturalistic aspect. With these goals in mind, a major forestation project supported by La Doria, a leading international group in the packaged foods industry based in Angri (Sa), was carried out in the Campania region, resulting in the planting of 1,000 plants. The project is part of Mosaic Green, the national urban and suburban area forestation and forest protection campaign conceived and promoted by AzzeroCO2 and Legambiente. The intervention was carried out in three different areas of Sant’Antonio Abate, a municipality that lies in the Sarno plain, on the slopes of Mount Lettere, with the aim of making them more usable by citizens and contributing to a healthier area. The first and largest intervention area is located on via Lettere within the Nature Park. In this place, after a cleaning and restoration work of existing plants and hedges, about 700 plants, including oleander, rosemary and olive trees, particularly suited to the climatic and naturalistic conditions of the area, have been placed to increase the tree cover of the park and thus create new areas of shade that, in addition to mitigating the heat island effect, will allow citizens to better enjoy this green space.

The new plants have also taken root in the garden of the IACP residential complex on via del Duca and in that of S. Antonio Abate Primary School, located on via Cesano, where they will benefit the children attending the institution. “Taking part in the Green Mosaic campaign has allowed our Administration to agree on a series of actions that will allow the town to benefit from urban redevelopment actions with the aim of creating a natural life centre in each neighbourhood” stated the Mayor of Sant’Antonio Abate, Ilaria Abagnale. “We have chosen to make upgrades with green areas of spaces adjacent to social residential buildings, to encourage the revival of these places and the development of sociality and conviviality. In the Nature Park and school garden area, we wanted to increase greenery so that a better quality of life would be offered to residents and all citizens who frequent these areas and to also spread an important message of raising awareness of care and respect for the environment and nature.”

A project that will bring numerous benefits to the area, beginning right with the renaturalization of the area and contributing to the reduction of climate-changing emissions: in fact, trees are natural “air purifiers” that absorb and filter numerous pollutants. Thus, the forestation action represents support for the preservation of the environment and the quality of life of the citizens of Sant’Antonio Abate. Thanks to the regeneration of these three green areas, the area is enriched with new spaces where nature once again takes centre stage.

“Environmental protection is an issue of great importance to our Group” stated La Doria CEO Antonio Ferraioli – “We have been committed to this issue for years, in the belief that doing business means operating with respect for the planet and for people. We are aware of our responsibility, which is why we have joined the national “Green Mosaic” campaign, whereby we pledge to plant trees to upgrade the area in which we operate and take care of it, thus contributing to the absorption of CO2 emissions and improving the quality of life of our community, which will be able to use new green spaces. A simple gesture but of great value for the environment and social well-being.”

“Thanks to the partnership with La Doria, we have been able to make a tangible contribution to the sustainable development of the area that shows how it is possible to take action to protect and enhance the places where we live. The planting of new plants, in addition to bringing benefits for the environment and creating habitats that will increase the biodiversity heritage of the area, will in fact improve the quality of life of residents by allowing them to benefit from regenerated green areas – stated Sandro Scollato, Chief Executive Officer of AzzeroCO2- The initiative is part of the European project “LIFE Terra” that sees Legambiente as the only Italian partner and of which we are supporters, a concrete example of how synergistic work between different entities allows us to restore value to our territories and deliver to citizens usable places in contact with nature”.
